Create YouTube-clips with FlexClip!

These days, the simple 2-dimensional ad is as good as dead. Everywhere, we are surrounded by short films that display different messages. Videos, text and audio are put together not only to display information but also to invoke a certain feeling as you watch it. Sometimes the ads provide a sense of warning and importance. Others portray a joyful announcement or an invitation. The important thing is that this is the way to express any kind of message in the future.

These expressions are called “multimodality”, which means the ability to formulate a well-written text on a piece of paper and give a message that gives a reaction. Students today need to practice these expressions in an artful way and learn about the legislation that comes with it in the form of copyright and so forth.

I have recently fallen in love with a new service called Flexclip! They make multimodality as easy as creating a Powerpoint, and the best part is that there is so much available in the free version! On Flexclip, I can create information for my students, or even better – let the students communicate their chosen message in a way that works in 2020.

There is an extensive library of materials to choose from, but you can also upload pictures, movie clips and music to make it your very own. This could become a fantastic project for the school and the school library together (I always suggest that kind of cooperation!). The students will learn how to publish, what they may publish, what copyright is and how to use licenses on the internet (if you are not a copyright expert, the local library can probably help you out – they love that kind of stuff!).
